PRELIMINARY INFORMATION

Komotini, September the 5th, 2003

Dear Colleagues,
Herewith we are sending you the preliminary information concerning the next
International Congress of EAA, which is to be held at Komotini, Greece,
hosted by the Laboratory of Anthropology of The Democritus University of
Thrace .

PROPOSED TITLE:

HUMAN VARIABILITY : A BRIDGE BETWEEN SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

ORGANISING BODIES:

European Anthropological Association
Laboratory of Anthropology/Democritus University of Thrace

FORESEEN DATES: 1-5 September 2004

PLACE: Komotini - Greece

PRELIMINARY PROGRAM

Wednesday September the 1st 21.00 Arrival of participants - Welcome
Reception

Thursday, September the 2nd - Saturday September the 4th
Sessions. (Closing ceremony on Saturday evening)
Sunday, September the 5th Post - Congress Cultural Events - Sight
seeing of Thracian area (optional trip - details to be announced in time)

TOPICS:

4 main axes of topics are proposed:
1. All about human evolution
2. Human Societies / Integrated Biological and Cultural Approaches
3. Global Bioethics
4. Practical Approaches of Anthropology / Appllications and Labour Market

Within these, a series of subtopics will be grouped, as for instance:

Molecular Anthropology - Population Genetics - Skeletal Biology - Osteology
- Human Evolution - Paleoanthropology - Demography -Paleodemography -
Auxology - Aging - Ethnic Identities - Racism and Xenophobia - various
Bioethical Issues - Ergonomy - Biological and Socio-cultural Anthropology /
links and gaps - Education Training andCurricula - Funding opportunities
for Anthropology etc. ..

Please feel free to propose additional topics, if not included in the
present draft.

NOTES:

Depending upon the number of presentations parallel sessions may be organized.

Posters are also welcome.

A special seesion will be organized for the presentation of students' papers.

Registration fees:

Members - full participants 100 EUROs / 100 EUROs / person
Students - STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ASKED TO PAY FEES

Provisional price for accommodation 45 -50 EUROs per night / person, in 3
and 4 stars hotels

You can reach Komotini:
1. via Thessaloniki (Flight to Thessaloniki. The Participants will be
received at the airport area on September the 1st, 17.00, at the airport
area. The University bus will trasfer them to Komotini.
There are also regular daily bus and train connections from Thessaloniki to
Komotini - 4 hours trip)
2. via Athens (Flight to Athens and then internal flight to
Alexandroupolis. The participants will be received at the airport area
September the 1st, 17.00, the DUTH will transfer them to Komotini-1hour
trip).

Travel and subsistence costs are covered by the participants.

Recommendations on the mode of full text preparation will be announced in time.
