Mellon Postdoc, University of Pennsylvania Five Andrew
W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Humanities are available for
the 2004-2005 academic year for untenured junior scholars who received
or will receive their Ph.D. between December 1995 and December 2003
(i.e., candidates must be no more than eight years out of their doctorate,
and degree must be in hand or dissertation defended no later than December
2003).
The programs of the Penn Humanities Forum are conceived through yearly
topics that invite broad interdisciplinary collaboration. We have set
SLEEP & DREAMS as the theme for the 2004-2005 academic year. Research
proposals are invited on this topic in all areas of humanistic study,
except educational curriculum-building and the performing arts.
The Fellowship carries an annual stipend of $37,000 and is open to international
applicants. During their year in residence, PHF Mellon Postdoctoral
Fellows are required to teach one freshman seminar per semester (fall
and spring terms) in an appropriate department, participate in the weekly
Research Seminar of the Penn Humanities Forum (Tuesdays, 12:00-2:00),
and present their research at one of those seminars. Fellows are expected
to be on campus during both terms of the fellowship (September -May).
Full Fellowship details, including a complete application, are available
for downloading from the Forum's website. (Application forms will not
be sent by postal mail except in cases when online access is unavailable.)
Application Deadline: Completed application and supporting materials
must be postmarked no later than October 15, 2003.
